With the support of OXFAM, ICAFIS and Fishing & Living, the Vietnam Tuna Association (VINATUNA) conducted a workshop to provide technical advice about corporate social responsibility (CSR) in fisheries. The one-day workshop took place in two of the three Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa provinces and was attended by over 100 tuna business owners and fishermen. The purpose of the training was to share knowledge and promote the benefits of CSR in tuna fisheries in Vietnam. CSR can take many forms, including safety at the sea, rescue at the sea, raise awareness among fishermen and logbook recording. During the workshop, participants also shared CSR experiences of large Vietnamese corporations.
VINATUNA and Fishing & Living took this opportunity to conduct a community needs assessment survey. The results indicated that 37% of the fishermen think that their knowledge about safety at the sea could to be improved. To answer to the needs identified in the survey, Fishing & Living planning various fishermen trainings about safety at sea and and logbooks. The information from this survey will help Fishing & Living plan future social activities to enhance living conditions of Vietnamese tuna fishermen. |
