Alon Equipment: Technological Solutions For Fishery

On February 28, 2024, VINATUNA organized a meeting with the participation of Mr. William Patrick - President of NAVCAST in the Asia-Pacific region, and local fishermen. At the meeting, NAVCAST introduced ALON equipment used for fishing boats.

NAVCAST is an enterprise that has been established and developed in North America for over 15 years, shipped and installed approximately 100.000 satellite communicators globally. Over 375 ALON devices exist in 10 countries and regions (Philippines, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Malaysia, Indonesia, Greece, Maldives, US, Mexico). ALON device provides a wide range of innovations for the fishery in supporting fishers to improve maritime communication ability, promote safety for vessels and people working onboard; enhance technical development for fishing activities. This equipment specializes in considerable helpful features below:

+ Vessel monitoring system globally coverage 24/7/365 (VMS).

+ Text message to a phone number, coastal radio, especially allowing fishers to communicate via Bluetooth signal with others who mutually use ALON equipment at fishing ground.

+ E-logbook at sea, caught fish traceability, fish tagging in real-time. It is beneficial for companies in fish definition and traceability.

+ SOS alarm; Capsize arlam.

+ Weather, fishing ground forecast based on oceanography factors analyzed in NAVCAST system such as: Sea surface temperature; sea current; direction and level of wave, wind.

Moreover, numerous valuable functions are being developed.

ALON's appearance is slim and compact, which is favorable for deployment. This equipment can operate independently without vessel power by a combined solar battery. ALON is made from polycarbonate material, which can prevent rust and is suitable for vessels in Vietnam. With a full-charged battery, ALON is available to operate for over 17 days.

At the meeting, ALON received positive feedback and attraction from local fishers. In the next phase, NAVCAST will promote cooperation for development to spread ALON devices in the Vietnamese market. VINATUNA, in collaboration with NAVCAST, will implement a pilot program for ALON at sea with the target of evaluation and modification to meet Vietnam's fishery demand./.
