VINATUNA AND ZUNIBAL VIETNAM REVIEW ELECTRONIC MONITORING (EM) PILOT IMPLEMENTATION
On the morning of October 7, 2026, the Vietnam Tuna Association (VINATUNA) and Zunibal Vietnam held a working meeting to review and discuss the results of the Electronic Monitoring (EM) system pilot implemented over the past period. This activity forms part of the Vietnam Skipjack Tuna Purse Seine Fishery Improvement Project under Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) standards (VN SKJ MSC IP).

Monitoring Fishing Activity on the Edge: mobilizing EM and edge computing to improve transparency of global longline tuna fisheries with near real‑time catch verification Currently, fisheries sector are facing a major lack of reliable and timely data, particularly in longline fisheries where independent observer coverage is often below 5%, posing a significant gap in data transparency. The Nature Conservancy and its partners are addressing these barriers to scale up Electronic Monitoring (EM) by researching and developing the integration of computer vision into EM camera systems for tuna longline vessels. The system combines electronic monitoring (EM) cameras, electronic logbooks, NVIDIA Jetson edge computing devices, and Starlink connectivity to transmit daily reports. -

MSC Standards - Prospects for Vietnam Tuna Sector According to the MSC Tuna Year Book 2025, approximately 2.5 million tonnes of global tuna production have achieved MSC certification, accounting for 54% of global output. There are 71% of global tuna production is currently on—or moving toward—a sustainability pathway, including fisheries participating in the MSC Improvement Program (MSC IP), those under MSC Assessment, and Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs). This demonstrates that sustainable fishing has become an inevitable global trend, with the MSC standard increasingly favored by international markets. -

The meeting between the Vietnam Tuna Association and the Directorate of Fisheries on Advancing the Vietnam Skipjack Tuna Purse Seine Fishery MSC Improvement Program (Vietnam SKJ MSC IP) As Vietnam’s fisheries sector—particularly the tuna industry—faces mounting pressure from international markets, a working session between the Directorate of Fisheries and Surveillance and the Vietnam Tuna Association (VINATUNA) has set out a strategic pathway to address technical barriers and strengthen the global competitiveness of Vietnamese tuna, especially skipjack tuna. Beyond export figures, the discussion is Vietnam’s commitment to sustainable - responsible development, integration into the global seafood market. -
COMPLIANCE WITH IUU REGULATIONS IN IMPORTED WILD-CAPTURED SEAFOOD – NOTICE FROM VIETNAM TUNA ASSOCIATION Following the direction of the Prime Minister and the official notice from the Ministry of Agriculture & Environment, the Vietnam Tuna Association (VinaTuna) requests all member companies to strictly comply with regulations on importing wild-caught seafood that does not violate IUU rules. -

On 3–4 November 2025, the Revfin Project Management Unit of Nha Trang University held a training program on “Sustainable Fishing Gear Waste Management – The Role of Fishers and Fishing Ports” at Hon Ro and Vinh Luong fishing ports in Khanh Hoa Province.
