MSC Standards - Prospects for Vietnam Tuna Sector According to the MSC Tuna Year Book 2025, approximately 2.5 million tonnes of global tuna production have achieved MSC certification, accounting for 54% of global output. There are 71% of global tuna production is currently on—or moving toward—a sustainability pathway, including fisheries participating in the MSC Improvement Program (MSC IP), those under MSC Assessment, and Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs). This demonstrates that sustainable fishing has become an inevitable global trend, with the MSC standard increasingly favored by international markets. -

The meeting between the Vietnam Tuna Association and the Directorate of Fisheries on Advancing the Vietnam Skipjack Tuna Purse Seine Fishery MSC Improvement Program (Vietnam SKJ MSC IP) As Vietnam’s fisheries sector—particularly the tuna industry—faces mounting pressure from international markets, a working session between the Directorate of Fisheries and Surveillance and the Vietnam Tuna Association (VINATUNA) has set out a strategic pathway to address technical barriers and strengthen the global competitiveness of Vietnamese tuna, especially skipjack tuna. Beyond export figures, the discussion is Vietnam’s commitment to sustainable - responsible development, integration into the global seafood market. -
COMPLIANCE WITH IUU REGULATIONS IN IMPORTED WILD-CAPTURED SEAFOOD – NOTICE FROM VIETNAM TUNA ASSOCIATION Following the direction of the Prime Minister and the official notice from the Ministry of Agriculture & Environment, the Vietnam Tuna Association (VinaTuna) requests all member companies to strictly comply with regulations on importing wild-caught seafood that does not violate IUU rules. -
Training workshop on “Sustainable Management of Fishing Gear Waste – The Role of Fishers and Fishing Ports. On 3–4 November 2025, the Revfin Project Management Unit of Nha Trang University held a training program on “Sustainable Fishing Gear Waste Management – The Role of Fishers and Fishing Ports” at Hon Ro and Vinh Luong fishing ports in Khanh Hoa Province. -
List of Official Members in the VIETNAM SKIPJACK MSC IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM As of October 30, 2025, 10 tuna processing and exporting enterprises are officially recognized as members of the Vietnam Skipjack MSC Improvement Program. -
Workshop "Enhancing Good Practices on Occupational Safety in Fishery" in Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh province On April 11, 2025, in Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province, the Vietnam Tuna Association (VINATUNA), in collaboration with the International Fund for Fishing Safety (IFFS) and local authorities, organized a workshop titled “Enhancing Good Practices on Occupational Safety in Fishery.” The workshop was attended by 40 local fishermen, along with representatives from VINATUNA, the Binh Dinh Sub-Department of Fisheries, and the People’s Committees of Tran Phu and Hai Cang wards.
