On 27 and 28 August 2026, the Vietnam Tuna Association (VINATUNA), in cooperation with local authorities in Gia Lai and Quang Ngai provinces, held workshops and training sessions on improving sustainable tuna fishing practices.

MSC Standards - Prospects for Vietnam Tuna Sector According to the MSC Tuna Year Book 2025, approximately 2.5 million tonnes of global tuna production have achieved MSC certification, accounting for 54% of global output. There are 71% of global tuna production is currently on—or moving toward—a sustainability pathway, including fisheries participating in the MSC Improvement Program (MSC IP), those under MSC Assessment, and Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs). This demonstrates that sustainable fishing has become an inevitable global trend, with the MSC standard increasingly favored by international markets. -
The meeting between the Vietnam Tuna Association and the Directorate of Fisheries on Advancing the Vietnam Skipjack Tuna Purse Seine Fishery MSC Improvement Program (Vietnam SKJ MSC IP) As Vietnam’s fisheries sector—particularly the tuna industry—faces mounting pressure from international markets, a working session between the Directorate of Fisheries and Surveillance and the Vietnam Tuna Association (VINATUNA) has set out a strategic pathway to address technical barriers and strengthen the global competitiveness of Vietnamese tuna, especially skipjack tuna. Beyond export figures, the discussion is Vietnam’s commitment to sustainable - responsible development, integration into the global seafood market. -

Vietnam Skipjack Tuna Fishery Joins MSC Improvement Program On October 02, 2025, the Vietnam skipjack tuna purse seine fishery was officially recognized by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) as eligible to join the MSC Improvement Program (MSC-IP). This milestone marks a crucial step toward achieving the world-renowned MSC ecolabel for sustainable fisheries.
